The worst thing romantic novels and films have done is this.
"I love you more than I can say" or "you don't have to say you love me, cos I already know" - great, the rudimentary tools of the oxford vocabulary no longer has the ability to serve the needs of the enlightened greatness of man. We really outdid ourselves, didn't we? *Gorge! You crazy romantics!*
This is how we're led to think this is the only kind of silence that is good.
A simple lack of conversation that is the direct consequence of too little sleep or flatulence or some form of constipation true or imagined - has now become a sign that the "magic" is gone, that we no longer "connect" because "we just don't talk anymore". When did not talking go from simply having nothing to say to becoming symptomatic of something else?! By the way I threw the words "flutulance" and "constipation" in here just to see the kind of ads Google would pull up. See below. Fascinating technology ain't it? I am momentarily tickled.
