Often the concept of "ownership" comes up when a problem strikes. Shit has happened because NO ONE took ownership, because EVERYONE didn't take responsiblity for the problem.
I have fundamental issues with this concept.
Surely if you thought hard enough, a problem, like a zit, had to belong to someone. This system we all exist in needs more than a convenient concept that EVERYONE had a responsibility. Above all, the continued functional co-existence in any eco-system required everyone to understand that while everyone had a responsibility, YOU and I must first understand ours.
Could you have kept the roads cleaned by not throwing your bloody cigarette butts on the floor? Yes. Could you have taken a broom on a Sunday morning and swept the roads cleaned if you had been a perpetrator of said act of incivility?
No. Someone still needs to sweep the floor. Because that's Their Problem.
That's why we pay our taxes. That's OUR problem.
This single idea has never stopped making sense to me.
