In today context, act of terrorism can happen any where any country. The whole intent of terrorism is to strike fear and panic in one with minimum efforts, illogical and radicalise approach.

Sometimes the underlying agenda is more than the simple demand. Take for the mumbai incident, could it be an action to sow discord between India and Pakistan?

In fact I have always feel that us, Singaporean had always taken national security for granted. And I hope this incident has made all Singaporean realised that we are also subjected to Terrorist Threat be it locally or abroad.

What should be the appropriate stance against terrorism? Total compliance in exchange for hostages?

I am not sure about our government's stance but I am sure the indian and russian will never yield to the terrorist's demand. Simpliy because if the government don't take a strong stance against those terrorists, every other day you will have terrorist siege in the country.

    How??

The Horror of Terrorism (Nov 30, 2008)

2 days after the confirmation that a Singaporean held hostage in the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai had been killed, I remain haunted still by the insane, faceless cruelty of terrorism.

Imagine the nightmares that haunt her family.

The idea that this could happen to anyone, anywhere is more real than ever. And did it take the death of a Singaporean for this to sink in, yes, sadly. Because no matter what, call this one united world or what you like, we're still Singaporeans.

The victim who was sacrificed in brutal murder, went to school like all of us here, had a history and culture just like ours. She could be your friend or your sister. She indeed is someone's friend and family and for what we mourn for one of our people, they mourn so much more bitterly for one of their flesh.

I've read several blogs and responses from incensed people who condemn the governments for taking the wrong stance. Some say that the Singapore government's stance of Dominance should be one of Negotiation instead.

Yet, in dealing with faceless terrorism where the triggers can be pulled on harmless women, I don't know if Negotiation will work. How do you negotiate when you don't have a fair party on the other side? When they decided on the tactic they took, they already threw Negotiation out the window. They wanted compliance.

In a world that is already innundated with different kinds of crises - if the flu wasn't killing us, the floods and tsunamis will, or the economic crisis will. And if all this isn't enough, we're killing each other.

I am deeply saddened.
