Haute Couture from Lagerfeld to Yves Saint Laurent

Given how many Louis Vuitton and other "IT" Bags you see dangling off the hands of thousands of fashion-savvy women scuttling about town in their Lauboutins, I sometimes wonder if some of these women, like me, actually cannot correctly pronounce the names of these brands.

I am sheepish as I say this. But it was not until recently that I stopped calling Yves Saint Laurent "Eves Sane Law-ren"...someone had to correct me and tell me it really is "If Song Low-Hong". Right....eternal saving grace, thank you Geri!

So here goes a list of some of the most important words for a Fashionista in training...I have to admit I literally tripped over some of these. Note to self: Roll these across tongue a good few times before heading into boutique.

  • "Haute Couture" [say: oht koo-toor; Fr. oht koo-tyr]
  • "Christian Louboutin" [Cristian lew-boo-tahn]
  • Jean Paul Gaultier [Say: zhan paul GO-tee-AY]
  • Lanvin [say: Lon-VAN]
  • Loewe [say: Low-vaye]
  • Piaget [Say: Pee-uh-jaay]
  • A. Lange & Söhne [Say: A-lahng-un-zoo-nah]
  • Cartier [Say: Kar-ti-yay]
  • Louis Vuitton [Say: Loo-Ee-Vee-Tong]
  • Hermes [Say: Air (hack real quick) Mess]
  • Chloe [Say: Cleo-eh]
  • Ermenegildo Zegna [Say Eh-meow-er-gee-to Zay-nee-ah]
  • Fun huh?
