ABout Schnauzers

The curious incident of 5 dogs.

For the uniniated, here's the wiki lowdown: -

A schnauzer (plural schnauzers) is a German dog type which originated in Germany in the 1400s and 1500s. The term comes from "Schnauze", the German word for snout, because of the dog's distinctly furry muzzle.

We have 5 of these.

This is how we came to this

At first there was Gemmie. Having been with with the family almost 10 years now, Gemmie undeniably holds the heartstrings of everyone at home. Gemmie, when we saw her, was so impossibly tiny at 2 weeks, we kept asking if she was some unique "teacup" breed. Caged with her "champion" father, she was piteously drinking his pee! Diana and I were immediately attracted to how strange she was. We went back to visit a few more times and when she was old enough for us to take her home with us, we did so with an entire survival kit of nursery items as if a baby was coming home. Yes, we had milk powder and of course we had a milk bottle...

Bono is just about the smartest dog I've ever seen. Without formal training, he could, if suitably motivated, open drawers and flip carpets up to uncover bits of treats. He's incredibly good looking in a handsome, masculine kind of way, with broad shoulders and a open-legged strut (although he's now uh hum, neutered). That's why we named him Bono. The superstar.

Bono used to live in a cage at home because Mom didn't like him too much. These days, even though he roams the house freely, he'd enjoy sitting by himself in a corner, away from everyone's attention. Like a star running away from the papparazzi, he hates being hugged, nuzzled or coddled in any form. I find this trait very endearing. He's just this silent, strong protector somewhere under the bed, or behind the curtains.

Bono staring at anyone who tries to get on my bed.

Gemmie and Bono produced the litter of Jujube, Oreo and Mojo.

My lovely 4 legged best friends.

Mojo is the only boy in the pack and he got his name because we neutered Bono (no more mojo...) after he curiously managed to impregnate Gemmie when we did everything we could to separate them.
